www.pbs.org/pov/promises/: The project Web site offers a range of resources for classroom and community use. These include:

• Facilitator's Guide -- Designed to help foster dialogue on themes of tolerance in community-based settings, this guide includes strategies and tips for locating partners, setting goals, making language choices, promoting dialogue via "listening questions," and using background resources.
• Lesson Plans -- This unit, for 7-12 grade teachers, incorporates television as a learning tool for American history, civics, and government.
• Timeline -- The timeline covers Middle East history from 1880 to 2001. For objectivity, certain events on the timeline include both Palestinian and Israeli perspectives.
• Map -- Reprinted with permission from Harper's Magazine, four detailed maps show the evolution of land division in the area called Palestine from the 1947 U.N. partitioning to Israel's proposal in 2000 for a Palestinian state.
